Pressure Reducing Valves

Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) Installation in Los Angeles

Reducing Incoming Pressure from 100+ PSI to 70 PSI

Reducing home water pressure

Installing a pressure reducing valve in your location is vital to avoiding leaks and damages before they take place. Depending on the incoming water pressure given by the city, you likely need to reduce the incoming pressure to your fixtures, as having too high of a PSI often puts excess wear and tear on faucets and pipes. It is highly recommended that you keep your incoming pressure below 80 PSI, with the ideal range being from 60 - 70 PSI.

How to Test your Home Water Pressure

Basic PSI water pressure gauge’s can be purchased at your local hardware store and connected to a water hose bib faucet to test the pressure. If your water pressure is above 80 PSI, it may be time to replace or install a pressure regulator. Though the incoming water pressure is supplied by the city, it is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain their pressure regulated.

Installation

We recommend installing Zurn Wilkins Pressure Reducing Valves as well as a Pressure Relief Valve. A pressure relief valve will discharge water when it feels that the pressure in the water system is too high. Similar T&P valves can also be found connected to your water heater. If either of these valves discharge at any time, it may be time to check your water pressure and adjust or replace your pressure regulator. The size of the PRV Valve should always be the size of the incoming water line, installed above ground, and installed close to where the plumbing enters the home.
